After the big releases from several smartphone companies, like Apple and Samsung, OnePlus is yet to announce its flagship of the year. The speculations suggest that the company is eyeing October to launch the OnePlus 13, but only in China for now. While the company has not revealed any detail concerning the launch, the rumour has it that OnePlus will break the traditions of December launch and will release the device early. After several weeks of buzz around the upcoming smartphone, the company has confirmed that the OnePlus 13 will run on ColorOS 15. But it is noteworthy that for the Indian variant, the upcoming OnePlus 13 will follow the tradition of OxygenOS.
In a meeting, held especially to discuss the ColorOS 15 features, Oppo confirmed that ColorOS 15 will feature in OnePlus 13, before it comes to the Oppo Find X8 series. This announcement also indicates that the OnePlus 13 most probably, will arrive ahead of the Oppo Find X8 series launch.
ColorOS 15 boasts an industry-first dual-engine design, Aurora and Tide, completely revamped from low-level systems to user-facing applications. The company stated that the ColorOS 15’s Aurora Engine revolutionises the user experience with a system-level rendering and drawing architecture. It is said to deliver 18 per cent faster control response and 40 per cent improved control stability.
It will also feature enhanced motion effects, like fluid cloud rebound, delicate 3D space transitions and expanded system-level sliding motion for more third-party apps.
Meanwhile, the ColorOS 15’s Tide Engine will sport an intelligent chip cache allocation and a full-stack software algorithm acceleration. According to the company, this OS results in improved processing speed.
Since, the Indian variant will carry forward the traditions of OxygenOS, the looks and feels could be a little different than ColorOS 15.
Accordong to the leaks, the OnePlus 13 is rumoured to feature a redesigned camera island. OnePlus has been following a similar design language since the last two flagships, but now is the time for change. The overhauled back panel is an indication of a shift in the phone’s aesthetic.
On the display front, the OnePlus 13 is rumoured to keep the same 2K resolution screen that has become standard in recent flagship models. This would ensure crisp visuals, whether you’re watching videos or playing games. Another interesting addition could be an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which would provide faster and more secure unlocking than the optical fingerprint sensors found on most smartphones today.
One of the most standout rumours about the OnePlus 13 is that the phone will feature 24GB RAM, promising enhanced performance, especially in areas like AI and demanding gaming. Under the hood, the OnePlus 13 is also rumoured to be one of the first phones powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. This chipset is said to offer substantial improvements over its predecessor. If OnePlus manages to secure this chip for the OnePlus 13, it could easily become one of the most powerful devices on the market.
For optics, the OnePlus 13 is speculated to sport an upgraded periscope camera sensor. Reports indicate that the OnePlus 13 will feature a 50-megapixel primary camera equipped with a Sony LYT-808 sensor and an f/1.6 aperture. It will also include a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom for enhanced photography versatility.
